omg, Judai = SUCH A FANBOY (part 1). IT MAKES ME HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE REACTING EXACTLY THE WAY I WOULD. ♥ "BLACK MAGICIAN! ☆_☆ BLACK MAGICIAN GIRL! ♥__♥" And I love how much pure fun Yuugi is having dueling with Judai. It's all about the love of the game. I love how Judai calls Yuugi Yuugi-san. ♥

I'M SO DAMN HAPPY TO SEE MAHAADO AGAIN OKAY

At 2:16 here, Yuugi and Judai do the cutest laughing-together scene ever in the history of all time (part 2). FINE I know there are probably other series in which a similar scene is more meaningful, but will I love either of the characters involved as much as I love Yuugi? Probably not.

Makes me wonder: if Yubel had been a boy all the way through and through, possession and all - I probably would have COMPLETELY SHIPPED the pairing. As it is, Yubel's character design reminds me of a freaky version of female!Yami no Malik, so.

And of course, the moment everybody (but me) has been waiting for (part 3): Yami makes his reappearance! And CUE FLASHY POSSESSION SEQUENCE, EXCEPT, ON BOTH SIDES.

HAHAHAHA SPIRIT MIRROR, WE MEET AGAIN ~ I remember it so well because it featured so very prominently in the EPIC Jounouchi-Malik-Yuugi DUEL OF DOOM.

... SUMMONING OSIRIS NEVER GETS OLD. EVER.
Although the ending was a massive "EH?!", but there was a cat in Judai's bag, so that makes everything okay. EEEE and an awesome scrawled card from all his friends.

shadow_of_egypt wins a WHOLE WORLD OF AWESOME for telling me about YUUGI'S RETURN IN GX. I'm just SO HAPPY to see him again. I HOPE THEY DUEL AND YUUGI KICKS JUDAI'S ASS. ♥

This means EVEN MORE to me because I recently started reading the GX manga (Volume 1 was just released in English in my country) and I ADORED it. IT'S A SERIES ABOUT YGO FANS, WHAT IS THERE NOT TO LOVE?! I kid you not, there are RANDOM FLASHES in Judai's memory about the LEGENDARY DUELISTS (cue Kaiba, Yuugi and JOUNOUCHI's silhouettes - PLUS MAI, EVEN), and his wanting to be JUST LIKE THEM. A duel takes place over, of all things, a BATTLE CITY DVD. ♥ And in the series it is a GREAT THING OF AWE to be in possession of a DUELIST KINGDOM VIDEO. I LAUGHED THE WHOLE WAY through the manga, especially when the main character just seemed to NEVER get his ass kicked. And also, there is a rival duelist named Chazz, which makes me LAUGH SO HARD because it gives me Blades of Glory flashbacks.

FANDOM CROSSOVERS WITH YGO
There's nothing quite like wandering around your non-YGO fandoms and finding YGO REFERENCES there. Or vice-versa! Check out Reborn's version of Screw the Rules, I Have Green Hair!

Gurren Lagann, in particular, seems to have more YGO crossovers than I realised! WHICH FILLS MY GL FAN'S HEART WITH JOY. These GL-styled YGO icons? UNSPEAKABLE LOVE, especially since I obsessed so violently over the series the Gurren Lagann art is so distinctive that I know the exact shots these YGO parodies were modeled on. Jounouchi = KAMINA LOLOLOLROFLOHGOD. And Simon = Atem and Yuugi, of course. AND VIRAL = BAKURA AND MALIK CRACKS ME UP SO HARD. GUYS GUYS GUYS. I know batshit crazy calls to batshit crazy across the gulf of different fandoms of different eras, but YEAH. ♥ AWESOME.

Here's a YGO-Gurren Lagann video that also puts a smile on my face. ♥ It's Underground, one of the many great tracks on the GL OST, and this YGO remake is amazingly faithful to the original GL video.

I left my office for one meeting this morning and came back to find a status update on one of the cases I'm on in my inbox that made me think almost instantly of this line from this fic:

"But Kaiba-kun says that the last duel wasn't a fair duel,

So of course my partner and I were, you know, not in the best of moods, despite the fact that we both knew it was coming and I'd been prepared for it and still.

That kinda is why Yami is awesome ON HIS OWN, really, because all he has to do is EXIST AND ALL THIS AWESOME STUFF JUST HAPPENS AROUND HIM. I think, conceptually, he's so fascinating that EVEN BABY!TSUNA COULD HAVE A DISCUSSION LIKE THAT WITH HIM.

"YGO 5D" makes me think that the people who came up with the series name slipped when they intended to type, "8D". As in "8D! LET'S SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WE CAN GET TO SWALLOW THIS SERIES!"

More YGO 5D artwork shows up! In which the main character's resemblance to both Yami and Mokuba is even more striking! Gods, he really does look like Yami and Mokuba's love-child. He has Yami's eyes. And Yami's glare and POSEUR 'TUDE.

This pleases me more than you could ever imagine. ♥ For all the wrong reasons, obviously, which is why I enjoy it even more.

This Jake Atlas dude REALLY. LOOKS. LIKE A BLOND KAIBA.

They are Noa's previously unmentioned Kaiba siblings, obviously! Just like how, in YGO-R, Pegasus mysteriously acquired a previously-unmentioned adopted son for the purposes of this thing purportedly called "plot"!

... clearly if I concentrate on drawing tenuous links to the VISUAL SIMILARITIES of the new characters to the old characters I CAN JUST PRETEND IT'S THE OLD YGO, WITH EVERYBODY IN THE SERIES AND EVERYBODY WORKING ON THE SERIES ON TWICE THE CRACK DOSAGE. I don't think I'll be able to have much of an emotional connection to any of the characters, but hey, I thought that about Hikaru no Go's Akira, and I am HAPPY TO BE PROVED WRONG ON THIS POINT ALWAYS.

Also, people should listen (by which I mean read) to this and this, really.

tinted_glass was doing the Computer Voyeurism meme (her lovely choice of words, not mine - I wish I could do that), and I asked her to HIT ME WITH HER BEST SHOT, so she asked for my most guilty pleasure fandom folder.

So I was: *grin* How do I choose? *grin*

... by not choosing, clearly, and giving you JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING:

This is my Reborn: Gokudera-Tsuna CANON MOMENTS folder. Most of my friends into Katekyo Hitman Reborn are passionate Yamamoto/Gokudera fans (as is most of the fandom, urk). So naturally, I had to be Gokudera/Tsuna (because the things I love just fly in the face of fandom popularity). It's a very canon pairing, yet has what I like to think of as a lot of underground love. So I vengefully catalogue all the canon moments for my pairing obsessively. Think of it as my massive secret MY PAIRING IS TOTALLY MORE CANON THAN YOURS folder. ;)

My Gurren Lagann fanart folder is pretty extensive, but can't hold a candle to:

TALES OF THE ABYSS
One of my biggest and most epic fandom loves ever, I think. Abyss Everything folder, Abyss doujinshi folder, and Abyss fanart folder. ... God I was obsessed.

TOTAL SHAME FANDOM MOMENT: My lolcats folder. I AM SO ASHAMED TO ACTUALLY ONE, FIND LOLCATS HILARIOUSLY FUNNY, TWO, BE CRAZY ENOUGH TO KEEP A FOLDER OF MY FAVOURITES.

There is a place called fandomsecrets that is essentially Postsecrets, for fandom: and this is my FandomSecrets folder. I love the place! I watch it obsessively and save every secret that refers to any fandom I'm in!

AND FOR THE I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THIS FANDOM FOLDER, here is my folder of pictures... of LIN'S CAT. I think it is HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY CUTE. I WANT TO HUG IT AND CUDDLE IT AND PET IT. Unfortunately it is MILLIONS OF MILES AWAY. She renamed it Milo, but I much preferred its former name: Glorfindel.

I loved this YGO response to the "Everything I know about the fandom through fannish representations/reputations meme". "DEEP BOOMING VOICES for tiny person" and "everyone is gay for kaiba" made me laugh hardest. THAT'S WHAT I LIKE TO SEE. ♥

Someone was looking for Yuugi/Yami no Bakura fic, so I was happy to oblige with whatever I had. *grin* I just ship Yuugi/anyone-who-isn't-,um,I-know-who with a blinding passion, so anytime I have a chance to share that with anyone else, I'm happy! AND WILL ENTHUSIASTICALLY DO SO!

Sadly, there aren't many Kleptoshipping stories out there. I've branched out into (any version of Yuugi) / (any version of Bakura) as a result of that. Strangely, I think the best fic if you want that is the Atem/Thief King Bakura fic.

The Light and the Thief - it states it's primarily Yuugi/Bakura, but accepts all permutations.

but Casteshipping (Pharaoh Atem x Thief King Bakura) has its C2 community too: here.

Reminiscence may be one of the better fics out there, and certainly is a favourite of mine. Likewise for The Games We Play.

This fanfiction archive might be of help. There certainly is one Yuugi/Ryou Bakura fic there, at least.

I am only halfway kidding, because pretty much nearly every anime OP/ED that's attempted to throw in English has always had me going, "EH?!" When I first started out watching anime, it used to throw me seriously off because I'd be, "Wait! I thought this song was in Japanese! Why are these strange snippets of English-that-doesn't-sound-anything-like-English here? Have I heard it wrong?"

This is the English translation and romanised lyrics for the opening song. The chorus makes me giggle, but the whole song is so obviously Y/Y. Same for the ED.

► Pegasus's Astrology and Blood Type chart out! The Rest Here. I remember reading these when just the first three were up, and wondering whether I'd get to see the rest or if they'd ever be completed! ;) Still, I am horribly biased, so as long as they do Jou's, Yuugi's and Kaiba's, I'm happy.

This part about Yuugi's blood type amused me the most, though, as the guide says, of Yuugi:
AB is most compatible with AB, B, A and O (in other words, EVERYBODY).

little_ribbon showed me the YGO: Duelists of the Roses game, but it wasn't until NOW that I discovered what it was about:

The good thing about fandom is that there's always someone crazier than you.

The bad thing about fandom is that there's always someone WAY CRAZIER than you, and sometimes all you can do is avert your eyes and hope that the crazy dies down soon.

New Abridged Episode out (again? This and the previous one were released in such close proximity I'm starting to worry it'll be April before I see a new one!) - although technically this one isn't an Abridged Episode, since it's abridging a Series 0 movie I didn't even know existed until this episode. GO TAS, educating YGO fans everywhere! (admittedly, I am easily educated because there's still so much I don't know) The art is actually amazingly pretty, given how old it is, and the sepia tint to the colour is actually quite visually appealing. It really feels like a throwback to an earlier era, which is exactly what it is.

The YGO Wikipedia has yet to put up a transcript (I'm shocked), but this highlights some of the best moments.

I loved that it was SO FULL of Jou and Yuugi moments (must hunt the video down sometime). My favourite moments, naturally, were Kaiba videostalking Yuugi in the shower (and the subsequent methinks-he-protests-too-much heated denial before the duel - "You'll have to take a shower ... and I won't be watching you do it!"), and Jounouchi's weapon-of-surprise-you-know-what. Which he deployed no less than twice.

And of course, my favourite line was Yami's, "Joey, with you it's never a surprise." ... and he looked so delightfully aw-shucks affectionate when he said it. (Even if that WAS the inner Jou/Yuugi fan talking)

I could probably spend way too much time on TVTropes, but I've always been extremely fond of the Superpowered Evil Side gambit (a variant is "With Great Insanity Comes Great Power"). The YGO extract they had was:

Yugi's powerful alter ego in Yu-Gi-Oh, Yami Yugi, is not actually evil, but he is a lot less concerned for the well-being of his enemies. Yami Bakura and Yami Marik, on the other hand, are both gleefully, psychotically evil. (Regular Marik isn't exactly a nice guy either.)

Yami Yugi: Couldn't I just mind crush him?
Yugi: You can't fix all your problems by mind crushing people.
Yami Yugi: Oh come on. Just one little mind crush, it'll barely hurt him.
Yugi: No! Bad pharaoh! No mind crush!

I can't help thinking this description doesn't sound anything like Yami (maybe the early Season 0 version), because I would have adored him if he'd been like this.
